Bus services hit

The indefinite strike called by the AP government employees demanding the reversal of the Centre’s decision to bifurcate the State affected the bus services between Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Both the government-run and private buses from Chennai did not ply to destinations in Andhra Pradesh, especially to Tirupati-Tirumala, affecting pilgrims.

Daily package tours to Tirumala arranged by Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) also temporarily suspended bookings on this route. Many devotees preferred trekking up. Due to this the Lord Venkateswara’s hill shrine wore a deserted look with APSRTC buses going off the road. This drop is the lowest in the last 30 years. The shrine is visited by over 70,000 pilgrims every day.
