KB Sir for all...

The man who discovered the Gods of Kollywood,  RajiniKanth and Kamal Haasan, is no more.

K Balachander (KB) was one of the rare original talents India could produce. He chose contemporary subjects and enriched them with his original ideas.

The Iyakkunar Sigaram (Peak among directors), won several awards for movies besides the Padma Shri and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Starting as a playwright, KB came to limelight with the play Major Chandrakanth.   The play was a sensation among Tamil audience.

He penned several interesting plays like Server Sundaram (Waiter Sundaram), Neerkumizhi (Water Bubble), Mezhuguvarthi (Candle), Naanal (Tall Grass) and Navagraham (Nine Planets).

In all his plays, he had a distinctive style of depicting the middle class realistically, their predicaments and clash with modern ideals.   

Most of his works were less hero- centric, dealt with sensitive feminist issues and took the movie to story theme and realistic creation loaded with new talent.

Balachander launched  65 actors, numerous directors and technicians into film industry.
