Ashok Leyland, which plans to become a full spectrum commercial vehicle producer, made two launches in a rather dull automobile market. Stile, a multi purpose vehicle, is the second offering from Ashok Leyland-Nissan Motor Company joint venture after Dost. Aimed at cost-conscious customers, the 7 or 8- seater Stile promises 50 per cent more mileage than its competitors, Innova and Xylo. Priced between Rs 7.49 lakh and Rs 9.29 lakh, the monocoque body powered by common rail diesel engine assures greater ride quality and safety. “It is a SUV converted to passenger vehicle, high in quality in an Indian cost,” said Dr V Sumantran, Vice Chairman. Manufactured at the Oragadam facility of Nissan, it is 80-90 per cent localised. The company targets sales of 500 to 1000 per month.
The intermediate commercial vehicle segment that boosted the results of ALL has another offering in the array, the Boss. The ICV is the remodeled version of the successful Avia Truck, a leading vehicle manufacturer in Europe, acquired by ALL. Manufactured at Pantnagar, Uttarkhand using robotic process, Boss is 100 per cent localised. Launched in two variants LE and LX the truck is priced between Rs 10.5 lakh and Rs 12 lakh. The LE variant was stated to offer 5 to 7 per cent higher mileage than other vehicles in the segment and LX,
5 per cent more than LE. “The Boss is a truck car as it is as rugged as a truck but comfortable as a car,” said Vinod K Dasari, Managing Director, ALL. The company has capacity to manufacture 100 trucks per day.
