With the Global Investors Meet nearing, Tamil Nadu government gears up to showcase the best and up haul the scenario. In association with the CII, TN government has come out with district development plan for 10 districts. A report that details the necessary infrastructure requirements of these districts was released by Minister for Electricity Natham R Viswanathan. Under the Vision 2023, 217 mega projects have been identified and of this 64 are under implementation. A large portion of this relates to the electricity department. “The peak power demand increases 13-14 per cent per annum. Around 4600 MW has been added in the last 3.5 years and TANGEDCO has invested Rs 25,000 crore capex on projects,” said C V Sankar, Additional Chief Secretary Industries. The Vision 2023 document aims 20,000 MW in 2023. Currently the state has an installed capacity of 13,742 MW. “The state is pro actively moving towards this target and we may even exceed it. We have signed a 200 MW power purchase agreement and will complete 1000 MW of power purchase agreement by April,”  said the minister. CII plans to take the report to ground level by implementing few suggestions from the report in each district.
