Changing dynamics in human resource management

From mere selecting of talent for an organisation, today the role of human resources department has taken different dimensions.

With attrition rates becoming a concern, the CII conference on TN HR Summit discussed on the changing trends and the need to keep attuned to it. P Padmakumar, Head- Human Resources, Saint Gobain Glass India Ltd, pointed to the roles of HR manager ensuring cordial industrial relations. “HR Managers, while recruiting should look beyond compensation and inculcate the virtues of the company into the recruiting candidate. This will help in retaining talent.”

He pointed to an emerging field of HR analytics in which huge data are analysed before recruiting candidates. “What was then done on a gut feeling, cannot be continued. Like surgeons HR managers can make or break an organisation,” said Padmakumar. Kumar Jayanth, Secretary, Labour and Employment, Tamil Nadu pointed to the TN Skill Development Company aiming at skilling youth and invited partners from the private sector for this mission. Around Rs 150 crore has been set apart for the year.

With the GIM, new companies are expected to open shop in the state. Jayanth expects this would create a need of around 5000 HR professionals.
