More gensets and diesel engines from TAFE

TAFE Motors and Tractors Limited (TMTL), the 100 percent subsidiary of Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited (TAFE) has stepped into the next phase of gensets and engines in the 82.5 to 125 KVA range. The new series would be priced between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 6 lakh. TMTL plans to focus on telecom service providers, e-governance, the Make in India programme and large builders. So far it has supplied one lakh gensets.

Launching the project, Mallika Srinivasan, Chairman and CEO, TAFE, highlighted the need for uninterrupted power in the retail, hospitality and healthcare segments that continue to expand despite the economic slowdown.

The main features of this series are the 15 per cent lower cost of ownership and easy repair diagnostics using data analytics. The engines are designed in collaboration with AVL of Austria, a leader in engine design.

This multi-fueled water-cooled injection system is emission-compliant meeting both the Indian and the more stringent European norms, the company claims.

“The contribution of TMTL to the TAFE Group is Rs 500 crore. We are looking to double that by 2018-19. The total industry size is 83,000 engines, and this is expected to increase to 129,000 in this period. TAFE Motors’ share of 23,000 is targeted to increase to 40,000,” said Srinivasan.
