SumInfra- corridor based development...

The 11th edition of SumInfra organised by CII had the theme of sustainable PPPs in infrastructure. Hosted by the Government of Tamil Nadu and supported by the Government of Kerala, the event focused on infrastructure projects that are in pipeline and stressed on PPP in drinking water, solid waste management and renewable energy. South India leads the nation with around 750 PPP projects.

Tamil Nadu is expected to get Rs 8583 crore to cover 1678 km of roads in identified areas. This would be the biggest externally aided project in the state so far and it is expected to commence from next year.

The present focus is on corridor-based development. Delhi-Mumbai industrial corridor is a model for this.  In a similar note, Tamil Nadu has plans for Chennai-Bengaluru, Madurai-Tuticorin and Coimbatore –Salem corridors to rev up industrial activities in the southern districts.
