Blue Star plans a new plant in south

Launching a new range of energy- efficient air conditioners, B Thyagarajan, Executive Director and President, Blue Star Ltd said that the company plans to open a manufacturing facility either in Tamil Nadu or Karnataka at an investment of Rs 150 crore to manufacture five lakh air-conditioner units. The Himachal Pradesh unit, which manufactures about 3.5 lakh units of room air conditioners, is expected to reach its full capacity by 2015. The new plant is expected to cater to the growing demand. The room air conditioner market is expected to grow at 15 per cent year on year and Blue Star’s market share is about 8 per cent. South alone accounts for 40 per cent of its sales. The company imports some parts through the Chennai port and transports it to Himachal Pradesh. The new plant in south will reduce this logistics cost involved.
