Frontier Life Science Services, a division of Frontier Lifeline Pvt., Ltd and Dr K M Cherian Heart Foundation has signed an agreement of cooperation and exchange with the University of Minnesota, which includes student and faculty exchange, joint research activities and academic activities. Professor Richard W Bianco, Director of Experimental Surgery and Associate Professor of Surgery at University of Minnesota was in town to inaugurate the National workshop on experimental surgery.
Frontier Mediville, spread across 360 acres in Gummidipundi, near Chennai aims at basic research and commercialisation of the same. With this agreement and the recent approval from the Drug Controller General of India, Dr K M Cherian Heart Foundation will be able to do clinical trials of manufactured tissues and will be able to start manufacturing them inhouse. This bio science park is first of its kind in Asia and it proposes to bring out India’s first bioprostethic valve, which will be third in the world after USA and Brazil. With rich facilities for research and development at the Frontier Mediville, Dr Cherian pointed to poor funding for medical research in the country. He also pointed to the decreasing interest among students to take science courses.
