Four daughters and a proud father

Father of multi speciality hospitals in India, Prathap C Reddy, has gifted the Apollo empire to be largely run by his princesses. The octogenarian, in a management change, brought his four daughters into top controlling positions; altogether they own 34 per cent. At the helm, is still the founder who has hinted at his first daughter, Preetha Reddy to be his heir. She, along with the third daughter, Shobana Kemineni, became executive vice chairpersons from executive directors. Suneeta Reddy and the youngest daughter, Sangita Reddy, are now the managing director and joint managing director respectively.

This management change has already unfolded future plans for the empire: adding 2685 beds across 13 hospitals at a cost of Rs 2400 crore and opening up five cancer and heart speciality hospitals across India. Asia’s largest healthcare group witnessed commendable growth in the last few years. Since 2007 revenue has doubled to over Rs 4000 crore and profits tripled to over Rs 350 crore.

With over half of the employees being women, the group now has over 15 per cent women at top level positions. While the tenure of Shobana as exec-VC is uptill Jan 2015, the others will be in their position until Feb 2016.
