Tamil Nadu Premier League launched

What if Chennai doesn’t get a place in the National level IPL? We start our league cricket for the state and that is what the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) is. The India Cements sponsored event has eight leagues – Chepauk, Coimbatore, Dindigul, Kancheepuram, Karaikudi, Madurai, Thootukudi, and Tiruvallur. The T20 matches will start on 24 August and will run through 18 September. M S Dhoni, the ex- Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper unveiled the trophy. He was emotional and said that he was back to the city after a long gap of 9 months and hopes to come back again soon. He added: “The State association has done so much for the India and Ranji players from Tamil Nadu. They should now give something back to the game. When they play in the TNPL, they will be encouraging kids in the districts to take to the match. They will be paying back something to cricket.” P S Raman is the Chairman of TNPL. The CSK team is facing a two-year ban from the IPL due to charges of match fixing. It still has a one-year term to serve before being inducted back into the IPL.
