Colourful welcome at the Saidapet station

IN OUR morning bustle, we often just whizz past railway stations without a wink. But that will not be possible now. At the Saidapet suburban train station, actors like Sivaji Ganesan, MGR, Padmini, Revathy, Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth will stare brightly at and welcome you. As part of the Daan Utsav in October, over 50 children from government schools at Tondiarpet, Perambur, Kodambakkam and Perungudi, who learnt art at the Nalandaway Art Labs, painted the ticket counter. Around 18 suburban stations are being made colourful by various groups from schools, colleges and NGOs. Corporate organisations too volunteered and used it as an effective team building activity for their employees. One of the firms had turned the Thiruvanmiyur station into a selfie spot where various props to take selfies were kept and the walls also adorned designs with the theme of ‘namma’ Chennai.

These murals not only give a break from the daily mundane life but also encourage the public to stop spitting on the walls and defacing them.
