The underground don zips through

It is always like a superstar movie release when the various stretches of the Chennai Metro are opened for public. The recent one being the inauguration of the first underground line from Nehru Park to Thirumangalam. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Union Minister of Urban Development K Venkaiah Naidu flagged off the first train. The station was full of avid travellers who wanted to get the feel of travel in the Metro. 

The opening of this line comes as a relief to the residents of Anna Nagar who had to bear several detours and traffic snarls due to the Metro work. This is also a boon to the long-distance commuters as CMRL has resumed direct services between Nehru Park and Chennai Airport. This 23 km distance will have a train every 30 minutes. The state has sanctioned an agreement in principle for Phase 2 of the project and the Centre has signed a MoU for the same. This will have three corridors: Madhavaram-Siruseri, Koyambedu -Light House, and Madhavaram -  Sholinganallur.
