Two friends trigger a change
Childhood friends Saiyasodharan, a mobile game developer and Alexraj, a lawyer were like any other youth of today wanting to change the world. It was the suicide of their dear friend that helped bring out the revolutionary spirit in them. “We were doubtful of our friend’s murder and we requested for the FIR copy, which was denied. But when we filed a RTI, the inspector was very polite in furnishing the details. That was when we realised RTI’s power,” said Saiyasodharan. They then launched the website. The procedure to file an RTI is simple in the website. If a complaint is registered in the website, the team files an RTI for free. The duo have successfully won some RTI’s that they filed. “Based on our complaint we were able to remove encroachments in Ashok Nagar, restore a drinking water and
sewage project in West Saidapet, and in a few other places. We have also started an online campaign to save the Cooum and Adyar rivers,” said Saiyasodharan. On an average the website receives 20 mails of which few are in appreciation and from volunteers. Though people have shown interest in donating, what these guys really want is that, everyone should use RTI to fight for their own rights. After a good response for their website, both of them are jotting down a roadmap to take forward and expand this initiative.
