Planning the right energy

The Brahm Prakash Memorial Medal for 2013 was awarded to Dr Baldev Raj, FNA, Distinguished Scientist, President-Research, PSG Institutions, Coimbatore. He highlighted that India’s strength lies in the field of nuclear energy and fast reactors. Sodium Cooled Fast Reactor, the fastest competitive reactor in the world was made in India.

Stressing on the need for collaboration, Dr Raj said, “The success of Fast Breeder reactor was possible with synergy of 250 organisations. You would be surprised to know that we don’t have design of any indigenous wind plant in India! This is because of the lack of synergy.”

In his lecture, he suggested promoting research that inter-twined energy, food, water and healthcare and stressed on the need to rework our energy requirements, moving towards energy equity to all.
