Vanakkam Chennaiyin FC

Chennai’s favorite cricket icon M S Dhoni has become dearer to the Metro. Becoming a co-owner of Chennaiyin FC, one of the football leagues in the Indian Super League, he becomes the fourth cricketer following Tendulkar, Ganguly and Kohli to invest in football leagues. Chennaiyin FC is co-owned by Abhishek Bachchan and Vita Dani. Abishek Bachchan also owns a Kabbadi team and Vita Dani of Asian Paints has immense interest in sports. Marco Materrazi, former Inter Milan defender, will manage the football league. Some key players in the league include Former Brazilian midfielder Elano Blummer, Mikael Silvestre (France) and Bernard Mendy.

After the success of Pro-Kabbadi, ISL has garnered the interest of many fans. These sports provide a refreshing change from the usual cricket mania.

At the team introduction meet Dhoni stated that Chennaiyin FC will be more focused towards developing football at the grassroots level.

The matches started off on 12 October and will extend till 20 December. As the T20 format caught people’s attention, hope these tournaments in similar fashion will kindle people’s interest in other sport as well.
