Deputy Collector Sindhu!

Long gone are the days when sports persons who brought laurels to the country were left unrecognised. In recent times, they receive financial rewards, splendorous cars, special postal stamps and lucrative jobs. The Andhra Pradesh government, has raised the bar further. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has offered the Olympic silver medalist, P V Sindhu, the post of Deputy Collector! Sindhu met the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration, Anil Chandra Punetha and district Collector, B Lakshmi Kantham and assumed office.

While Sindhu said she was happy to serve the country, she reiterated that for now, her priority continues to be badminton. The AP Government is mulling waiving off the two-year training period to enable her to focus on her sport. This appointment has made Sindhu an official of the revenue service of AP government and not the Indian Administrative Service. However, a few years down the line, she might get inducted into the latter.
