Break-ins, when residents leave their houses on short holidays, are a common nuisance. The Andhra Pradesh police have sought to control this menace by introducing the Locked House Monitoring System (LHMS) App. On requests via the app, the police would temporarily install CCTV cameras and Wi-Fi modems at the residents’ houses. Any movement in front of or inside the house would be relayed to the owner’s phone and the police control room. Over 50,000 people have registered within 15 days of the launch of the app. The said service is free. However, the App is available only for Android users.

Meanwhile, in Telangana, the Commercial Taxes department is in the final stages of launching ‘T-GST,’ an app to help curb tax evasion. Customers would be encouraged, by giving out gifts based on draw of lots, to upload their bills on the app, which would enable the state to verify remittance of GST collected by the dealers. Also, the hugely successful app-based smart buses for women passengers, ‘She Shuttles,’ have reached Rachakonda, Hyderabad. The use of GPS and mobile technology together with employment of a female security guard, all-women passengers, free service and one-touch police alert are the makings of this innovative shuttle bus.
