Strike over salary hike
An indefinite strike was called by the staff of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) seeking wage revision, improved safety measures among other demands. The government, not giving up its side, invoked the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) and suspended 3000 trainees. It is hard to believe that some of them are still probationers after serving over ten years! The transportation system of the state was badly hit for two days before the strike was called off and normalcy returned.
