L&T: focus on infrastructure and more infrastructure…

Engineering and construction giant Larsen and Toubro has been developing several infrastructure projects. Its expertise in construction and ability to mobilise needed finances, have been helpful in conceiving and implementing several large projects involving heavy capital outlays. Over a decade ago, L&T conceived the Bangalore International Airport. Along with the Karnataka government, it brought together Siemens AG, the Zurich Airport and the Centre to construct the modern airport.

Likewise, L&T joined hands with Tata Steel to plan and execute a large capacity port at Dhamra in Orissa involving an investment of over Rs 3000 crore. The expertise in design, engineering and construction of L&T was helpful in completing such large projects in quick time.

L&T has been selling off such projects once they were completed and get ready for operation. The major gain relates to company getting the engineering and construction jobs of large infrastructure projects in diverse areas.

The Container Terminal at Kattupalli, part of the large ship building and engineering plant, is the latest to be hived off. Adani Port is all set to acquire the Container Terminal with capacity to handle 20 million tonnes of cargo.
