A friendly business group

At the invitation of my friend Peter Spackman I attended the monthly meeting  of the British Business Group (BBG), an association of expatriate British business people.  John Pontin of Bristol, Founder of The Converging World (TCW), was the chief guest. In a short presentation the septuagenarian explained the objective of TCW, the charity founded by him to marry business and environment concerns. In a chat he pointed to the efforts of TCW to install wind turbines, generate revenues and employ these for charitable purposes.

Pontin raises the needed resources from socially conscious charity-minded individuals. He outlined the scheme of raising funds as loans with zero interest over short term, invest these in generating electricity through wind turbines and spend the revenues on social amelioration like tree planting, reducing carbon emissions, provision for livelihood opportunities, education... TCW has operations in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

Wendy Stephenson, CEO, pointed to the work done by TCW at Bristol, UK, which received acclaim as the Green Capital of Europe for 2015.

At the initiative of the former British Deputy High Commissioner for Britain in Chennai Mike Nithavrianakis a core team of Mike Freeman, Sundeep Bedi and Christie Cherian founded BBG in 2011 with the aim to encourage trade as also  provide the environment for business networking.
