Telangana in top gear…

The strident growth in revenues recorded in the first two months of the current fiscal by the Telangana government augurs well for the state racing ahead of others in terms of development and growth. Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao and his Telangana Rashtra Samithi appear vindicated in getting separate statehood for Telangana. Rao has not just been content having achieved his goal. There have been welcome efforts on the part of Rao and his team to forge ahead with focus on development. It is true the division was highly favourable to Telangana in terms of taking along with it Hyderabad and the northern parts of the old Andhra Pradesh state which have been endowed with large natural resources, notably coal. The Rao government has initiated a large number of schemes to accelerate development, especially in the field of infrastructure.

In contrast, the Seemandhra region seemed to have been burdened with severe cash crunch. The cost involved in building the new capital at Amaravati appears staggering and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is bound to repeat his earlier record of taking Hyderabad to great heights. His plans for building smart cities and accelerating development look promising. With some luck if gas production of Andhra coast in the Krishna-Godavari basin picks up, it can be a great game-changer.
