Rail-road Rajaraman

Days were when North Block, the home for finance ministry, used to be crowded with Tamil IAS officers. In the 1990s we had K P Geethakrishnan (Finance), M R Sivaraman (Revenue) and K Venkatesan (Expenditure).  Their number has thinned down.

I met with K Rajaraman in the Expenditure Secretariat, in-charge of large projects (exceeding Rs 500 crore). A former MD of Chennai Metrorail, Rajaraman pointed to the large number of road projects, part of Bharat Mala, getting ready for clearance.

Another officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, is S Gopalakrishnan, now with Electronics & IT department. While most policymakers-ministers and bureaucrats didn’t respond to mails requesting for meetings, vital for distant countrymen like me on short visits to Delhi, he responded by inviting me to drop in any time during the visit! n
