WABAG lands Yanbu desalination project

VA Tech WABAG (WABAG), an Indian multinational specialising in water technology, has secured a Letter of Award from the Saudi Water Authority (SWA) for the development of a 300 million litres per day (MLD) seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant in Yanbu, on the west coast of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Valued at approximately USD 272 million, the project will be developed as a greenfield facility and include the design, engineering, supply, construction and commissioning of the plant. Formal contracting processes are set to begin shortly and WABAG is expected to announce the effective date of execution following the signing.

This development is a significant win for WABAG in the Gulf region, strengthening its presence in large-scale water infrastructure projects. The company has previously undertaken similar projects in the Middle East.

Rohan Mittal, Head of Strategy and Business Growth for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region at WABAG, said, “We are immensely proud to have emerged successful in this prestigious project not just once, but twice. This repeat success underscores the strength of our technical competence, competitiveness and our deep-rooted capabilities in executing large and complex desalination projects.”
