These stations will come up in government-owned places and are part of the first phase of Tamil Nadu’s clean mobility plan. This move follows Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited (TNGECL)’s partnership with Relux Electric to install 500 EV charging stations across the state.
The new charging stations will be placed in public areas so that people can easily charge their electric vehicles. An official from GCC said, “Through this collaboration with Relux Electric and TNGECL, we want to support Chennai’s move towards clean and eco-friendly mobility. We aim to provide reliable EV charging stations in important public places so that more people can use green transport. This is part of our commitment to build clean and energy-efficient urban infrastructure for all citizens,” according to a release.
The nine charging stations will be set up at the following locations: Marina Beach Parking, Besant Nagar Beach Parking, Nageswara Rao Park, Mylapore, Bougainvillaea Park, Anna Nagar, Semmozhi Poonga, Teynampet, Corporation Playground Parking, T. Nagar, Somasundaram Park, T. Nagar, Mangal Lake Park, Ambattur and Ashtalakshmi Temple Parking, Besant Nagar.
Karthikeyan S., Managing Director of Relux Electric, said, “We are happy to support Chennai’s move towards clean mobility. Our charging stations will give fast, reliable and easy-to-use charging. Through this partnership with GCC and TNGECL, we want to build public trust in electric vehicles and support the goal of reducing carbon emissions in the city,” he said.
All nine stations will be ready before December 2025. Each station will be around 500 sq. ft in size. They can charge two cars and three two-wheelers simultaneously and will offer fast charging for four-wheelers, as stated in a release.
