It has recently been opened to the public. For Wonderla, it is their fifth entertainment destination; previously they were present in Kochi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Bhubaneswar. The company claims that the Chennai park is the biggest and most ambitious project compared to their previous ones.

This park was built with an investment of over Rs 611 crore and spreads over 64 acres in Illanalur village on Old Mahabalipuram Road. It has 43 rides and is expected to facilitate 6500 visitors every day. The company official noted that Wonderla is currently in discussion with the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) to operate about 100 buses from various parts of the city to the park.

The Chennai park will have India’s first Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M) inverted coaster ‘Tanjora’ and sky rail rides. According to Arun K Chittilappily, Executive Chairman and Managing Director of Wonderla Holidays, this project was a decade-long dream and has now been made possible through the constant support from the government of Tamil Nadu. Wonderla Chennai is expected to create over 1000 direct and indirect jobs, which will support the local livelihoods and the tourism industry.

The company next plans to expand its footprints to other metros like Mumbai and Delhi and in the future is also looking at tier 2 and tier 3 cities where demand is picking up.
