What TN’s Deep Tech policy offers

Tamil Nadu unveiled its Deep Tech Startup Policy 2025-26, becoming the first State to do so. The policy aims to position the State as India’s premier deep tech hub.

Here are the key features of the policy, unveiled by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin at the fourth edition of Umagine TN, the State’s flagship technology conference.

*Aims to deliver tangible outcomes over the next five years through ecosystem-wide interventions.

* To support 100 deep tech startups.

* To mobilise Rs 100 crore of public and private investments, including venture capital, co-investments, and patient funding.

*Achieve 10 technology transfer or licensing deals from academic and R&D institutions for commercialisation by industry or startups.

*Facilitate 25 per cent growth in annual patent filings by deep tech startups.

* Train over 10,000 students and professionals in deep tech skills.

* Award 10 research fellowships.

* Facilitate procurement of deep tech solutions worth Rs 10 crore through public and private sector market access programmes.

* Promote global market access for 50 deep tech startups.

* Establish sector-specific test beds for continuous validation and demonstration, supporting at least 25 startups annually.

*To establish “Government as Early Adopter Programme” across 5 departments.

*The Programme will support the pilot deployment, field validation, and scale-up of deep tech solutions, with an annual departmental budget of Rs 5 crore.

* The policy is open to all organisations and participants of the ecosystem including Deep tech startups, Academic institutions, Industry players among others.

*The policy offers a set of incentives designed to support innovation, research, and commercialisation of deep tech startups.

*Incentives provide financial support, access to infrastructure, and foster strategic partnerships, aimed at helping startups grow from R&D to market-ready solutions.

* The iTNT Hub will serve as the nodal implementing agency for the policy.
