Despite the marginal drop, total electric two-wheeler registrations remained above the one-lakh mark for the third consecutive month—a sign of the segment’s underlying demand resilience.
Among key players, TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, and Ola Electric reported a sequential decline in sales. However, Ather Energy and Hero MotoCorp defied the broader market trend, recording positive growth in July.
Total battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations across all segments reached 1.89 lakh units in July 2025, up from 1.82 lakh units in June and 1.80 lakh units in July 2024, according to Vahan data.
The E2W segment, however, saw registrations dip to 1.03 lakh units in July, down from 1.06 lakh units in June and 1.08 lakh units in July 2024. May 2025 had seen E2W registrations at around 1.01 lakh units. Electric vehicle penetration in July inched up to 8 per cent, from 7 per cent in the previous month.
Ather & Hero emerge July’s winners
TVS Motor retained its leadership in the E2W space despite a volume dip to 22,225 units in July, from 25,468 units in June.
“While magnet availability continues to pose challenges in the short to medium term, TVS Motor has sufficient stock of rare-earth magnets to meet short-term demand, the company management said during its latest earnings call.
Bajaj Auto saw its electric scooter sales fall to 19,650 units from 23,161 units the previous month. Ola Electric also posted a decline, with sales dropping to 17,848 units from 20,234 in June. Greaves Electric experienced a marginal dip, with registrations at 4,197 units compared to 4,207 units in June.
In contrast, Ather Energy’s registrations rose to 16,231 units in July, up from 14,677 in June. Hero MotoCorp crossed a key milestone, breaching the 10,000-unit monthly mark for the first time with sales of approximately 10,500 units—up from 7,697 units in June.
E-car sales hit new peak
Meanwhile, the electric passenger vehicle (e-car) segment recorded its best-ever monthly performance, with registrations crossing the 15,000 mark for the first time. Total registrations stood at 15,253 units in July, compared to 13,876 units in June.
Tata Motors retained its top position in the e-car market, registering nearly 6,000 units in July—up from around 5,000 in June. “We recorded our highest-ever monthly EV sales—a significant milestone in our zero-emission journey,” the company said.
JSW MG followed closely, clocking sales of slightly over 5,000 units, compared to about 4,240 units the previous month. Mahindra Electric, however, saw its numbers decline to 2,560 units in July from 3,010 in June.
E3W maintain upward momentum
The electric three-wheeler segment registered a strong sequential uptick, with total registrations reaching 69,146 units in July, up from 60,558 units in June.
