Catalyst for large industry growth

Listen to this article

The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (TIDCO) was set up in 1965 to promote large and medium industries. The Corporation has been offering handsome equity support for setting up industries in the joint sector. The initial kick-start provided by TIDCO was extremely helpful in scaling up investments by entrepreneurs. Some of these like SPIC, Titan Industries, TIDEL Park, TICEL Bio Park, Mahindra World City, Tamil Nadu Petro Products, Tamil Nadu Road Development Corporation have been formed and nurtured by
TIDCO. Over a hundred projects have been established with liberal equity participation.
In recent years TIDCO, in association with SIPCOT, has been establishing Special Economic Zones and
industrial parks. Among the current landmark projects is the LNG import terminal at Kattupalli with an investment of over Rs 5500 crore.
The assistance extended included equity participation in the joint, associate and escort sectors along with the offer of escort services.
Thus over five decades, TIDCO has been instrumental in scaling up the level of industrial investments as also in the development of industrial infrastructure. The rich diversification of industries in the large sector owes a lot to TIDCO.
