Chennai Metro moves ahead

Listen to this article

The other day I took a Rs 100 ticket to commute from the Airport to Central to Washermanpet to Airport. The last stretch took me all of 35 minutes, which is impossible if I were to travel by car whether in dense traffic or otherwise. The various stations are however to have a significant off-take. The lack of a feeder facility is a sore point. An official said that Railway is exploring new ways to make people use the metro services in the city. The passengers feel that it is costly to use the Metro as not all the metro stations are equipped with share cars or autos.
I would not lose hope for the Metro. Remember the MRTS (Central to Velachery) was a huge letdown and was not popular for many years; today it is as crowded as the suburban trains.
