Doraiswamy set to be CEO & MD of LIC

The Financial Services Institutions Bureau has recommended R Doraiswamy for the position of Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC).

The bureau interviewed four candidates from Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) on June 11 for the position of Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director (CEO & MD) in LIC. “Keeping in view their performance in the interface, their overall experience and the extant parameters, the bureau recommends R. Doraiswamy for the position of CEO & MD in LIC,” said a release.

It is, perhaps, the first time in the history of Life Insurance Corporation that a person who started as an assistant in a Tamil Nadu branch is being nominated for the top slot of CEO and MD.

In February this year, he was appointed as the nominee director on the board of IDBI Bank. Doraiswamy is a graduate of Mathematics from Madurai Kamaraj University and a Fellow Member of the Insurance Institute of Actuaries of India.

Doraiswamy has more than 38 years of rich and diverse experience in operations, marketing, technology and academics. Prior to taking charge as Managing Director, Doraiswamy has held various leadership positions within the organisation as Executive Director (Information Technology/Software Development), Regional Manager (Marketing / Chief Life Insurance Advisor), Regional Manager (Pension & Group Schemes) at Southern Zonal Office, Chennai, Senior Divisional Manager of Kottayam Division and Marketing Manager of Chennai-I, Thanjavur and Pune divisions.

As Research Associate at National Insurance Academy, Pune, he has worked on multiple projects on Micro Insurance, Insurance Law and Regulations, Product Development and Content development for Post Graduate Programmes in Insurance Management / Chartered Financial Planning.
