The announcement was made at a joint GOPIO-GTO event held in Chennai, where plans for a series of Global Tamil Business Conferences were unveiled. The conferences are intended to connect Tamil entrepreneurs, investors and professionals worldwide with emerging growth opportunities in Tamil Nadu.

Speaking at the event, GOPIO International Coordinator Sezhiyan said the global Tamil diaspora, which includes more than 80 million people, represents a major source of investment, technology, knowledge and international business connections.

He said that by strategically utilising the strengths of the Tamil diaspora, Tamil Nadu could achieve an economy worth US$1.5 trillion by 2036 and US$4 trillion by 2050. Organisers said several countries, including Israel, China, Ireland and the Philippines, have successfully leveraged their diaspora communities to drive economic development. The new initiative has been designed on similar lines to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s growth prospects.
As part of the programme, Global Tamil Business Conferences will be organised in Sri Lanka in July 2026, Dubai in August 2026, Mauritius in September 2026, Malaysia in October 2026 and Paris in April 2027.

The conferences will feature investment presentations, business networking sessions, commercial partnerships and interactions with representatives of the Tamil Nadu government. The organisers also announced plans to create a database of global Tamil talent and investment opportunities, establish business networks across different countries, launch a dedicated Tamil investment platform and host a Global Tamil Investment Summit in Tamil Nadu in 2027.

The initiative will focus on attracting investments in key sectors such as manufacturing, renewable energy, information technology, healthcare, agri-tech and logistics.
GOPIO and GTO said the initiative is expected to serve as an important bridge between the global Tamil community and Tamil Nadu’s economic development ambitions.
