MARUTI SUZUKI INDIA LTD. has seen the share of green vehicles comprising CNG, mild hybrids and strong hybrids grow, with their volumes accounting for nearly half of its sales in FY25. The share of sales grew to over 48 per cent in FY24 from 37 per cent in FY23, with a significant contribution coming from CNG models. One out of every three vehicles sold by the company are CNG-powered and its sales in FY25 reached 6.2 lakh units, up from 4.8 lakh units in FY24. The target for FY 2025-26 is 7 lakh units

EAST AND SOUTH LEAD IN CNG INFRASTRUCTURE
The number of CNG filling stations in India has shown steady growth, rising from 4433 in FY22, reaching 8067 in FY25. Region-wise, east recorded the highest growth in CNG filling stations at 48 per cent, followed by south at 24.3 per cent, west at 17.6 per cent and north at 10.1 per cent. In terms of region-wise growth in PV CNG sales in FY25, again east led with a 54.7 per cent growth rate, followed by south at 34.9 per cent, west at 29.2 per cent, and north at 22.4 per cent. The all-India average growth rate for CNG vehicles during this period stood at 28 per cent.

In FY25, sales of Strong Hybrid Electric Powertrain Vehicles (SHEVs) grew by over 27 per cent, supported by state government incentives and road tax waivers. With adequate government support, SHEVs can be scaled up quickly, helping increase the share of green vehicles in a market still dominated by pure internal combustion engine vehicles, the company said.

As part of its sustainability initiatives, Maruti Suzuki has increased the use of rail for transporting cars and dispatched approximately 0.52 million vehicles using Indian Railways in FY25, marking a major step toward sustainable logistics. The company plans to increase its rail dispatch share to 35 per cent by FY31. To further strengthen this, in June 2025, India’s largest automobile in-plant railway siding at its Manesar facility was commissioned. It has the capacity to dispatch 450,000 vehicles annually. Plans are also progressing for an in-plant railway siding at the Kharkhoda facility.
