It is a commendable effort: to recognise, applaud and honour path-breaking entrepreneurs. C K Ranganathan, Chairman & Managing Director, Cavinkare Pvt Ltd has been presenting awards in the name of his illustrious father R Chinnikrishnan, father of the sachet revolution.
CK: a great leader
Starting his first business as a manufacturer of simple medicines based on herbs delivered by him in his bicycle to local shops, to innovating packing small quantities of shampoo in sachets, Chinnikrishnan indeed triggered the sachet revolution. Cavinkare’s success in delivering consumer products in small doses at affordable prices was copied in quick time even by multinationals.
CKR introduced the awards named after Chinnikrishnan as an annual feature in 2011. An illustrious team of judges evaluates the entries from a large number of enterprises and innovators and the prize is presented in cooperation with the Madras Management Association.
The audio-visual on Chinnikrishnan lucidly depicted his attributes as a dreamer, innovator and ideator. Rising from humble beginnings as a school teacher in mathematics, this industrious leader built his mission on the simple philosophy that “what the rich man can enjoy, the poor man should be able to afford.”
