Odisha bit to change Bhubaneswar into Singapore-like city

The Odisha chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi is seriously planning to make the state capital Bhubaneswar shine like Singapore.

Call it infection from Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s Singapore inspired capital, Amaravati, or Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to create several Singapore within India. The Odisha government has already appointed Singapore-based Surbana Jurong Infrastructure to design the master plan for the proposed Bhubaneswar New City Project covering 800 acres with an estimated investment of Rs 8,179 crore. The new city will encompass three villages Daspur, Gothapatna and Malipada. The vision is to make it a multi-economic growth zone aligned with Odisha state’s long-term vision Vikshit Odisha 2036.

The new city will have a total built up area of around 21.7 million square fee t covering residential, office space, commercial, industrial and neighbourhood shopping area having MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) facilities and incorporating global standards and best practices in urban planning. The Odisha government intends to accommodate 15,000 housing units and 60,000 people in the planned Singapore style Bhubaneswar.  Sources say Odisha government’s intention is to incorporate best practices and global standards in urban planning.
