The initiative caters specifically to Tamil-speaking users, offering a culturally relevant and user-friendly platform that prioritizes both safety and convenience.
Accessible via https://aksharapin.iob.in and through the bank’s official website www.iob.in, the Akshara portal allows users to create PINs using Tamil words or phrases. This innovative approach moves away from traditional number-based PINs, which are often predictable—such as birthdates or sequences—and, therefore, more vulnerable to fraud. By enabling users to choose personally meaningful Tamil phrases, the portal enhances security while also making PINs easier to remember, according to a statement from the bank.
“At Indian Overseas Bank, we believe that technology should serve as a bridge, not a barrier. By introducing the PIN generation facility in Tamil, we are not only embracing the power of digital banking but also honouring the linguistic preferences of our valued customers. This is a meaningful stride towards accessible and inclusive banking,” said Ajay Kumar Srivastava, Managing Director and CEO of Indian Overseas Bank.
The Akshara portal has been thoughtfully designed with an intuitive interface, making it easy for native Tamil speakers to navigate and use. It reflects the deep-rooted presence of IOB in Tamil Nadu and its ongoing commitment to aligning services with the linguistic and cultural context of its customer base, it said.
