The release, however, did not disclose the exact stake that the Reliance Consumer has picked up in Udhaiyams Agro Foods Private Ltd. Folowing the deal, Udhaiyams Agro has become a joint venture company. The release also did not give any details about the financial details about the deal.
“Udhaiyam is a brand that needs no introduction in Tamil Nadu. It has been serving healthy food choices to consumers for decades and reflects the state’s strong food heritage combined with quality and consistency,” T Krishnakumar, Director, Reliance Consumer Praducts, said.
He said that the joint venture would help RCPL strengthen its branded staples business. “This partnership reaffirms our commitment to offering global-quality products at affordable prices. We are confident that Udhaiyam will grow into a national brand while continuing to retain the trust it enjoys in Tamil Nadu,” Krishnakumar said.
S. Sudhakar, Managing Director, Udhaiyams Agro Foods Private Limited, said that the association with RCPL would support the next phase of the brand’s growth. “Udhaiyam has served households in Tamil Nadu for decades, especially in the packaged pulses category. This partnership opens up new opportunities for expansion beyond the state,” he said.
He said that RCPL’s scale and distribution capabilities would help take Udhaiyam to new markets while maintaining product quality. “We believe the brand’s roots in Tamil Nadu and its focus on healthy food will connect with consumers across India,” Sudhakar said.
Following the transaction, promoters S. Sudhakar and S. Dinakar will continue to hold a minority stake and remain actively involved in the business. With over 30 years of experience in the staples segment, the promoters will support the company as it scales up operations under RCPL’s leadership.
