Vijay announces plan to improve energy infra

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Monday announced plans to boost the energy infrastructure in the State.

In the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly under Rule 110, he announced Tamil Nadu Transmission Improvement Scheme will be implemented at the cost of Rs 33,066 crore. Under the scheme 196 new substations will be established along with 15,000 km of transmission lines, besides strengthening the existing ones.

 

He also said a New Supercritical Thermal Power Station will be established in Thoothukudi.

Vijay said during peak demand seasons, to ensure uninterrupted power supply, the State has to be dependent on thermal power projects and it is important to strengthen the infra.

He said under public private partnership mode, New Supercritical Thermal Power Station with a capacity of 1600 MW (2X800) will be established at the cost of Rs 20,800 crore

Vijay also announced that the electricity infra in Chennai will be upgraded at the cost of Rs 762 crore.
