Wafer from red mud: Entity 1 achieves a breakthrough

In a significant move, Chennai-based Entity 1 Value Emissions Pvt. Ltd., a licensee of Ram Charan, has announced that it has unveiled a proof-of-concept project to scale up supply of material to the semiconductor industry by using steel slag and aluminium mud.

A proof-of-concept (PoC)is a way to ensure that a service or product idea can work. According to the Gartner glossary, “A PoC should demonstrate that the product or concept will fulfil customer requirements while providing a compelling business case for adoption.”

The move by Entity 1 is set to position India as the first country globally to facilitate production of wafers from red mud derived silicon. It also set to signal a transformative shift in materials supply, sustainability and domestic manufacturing.

Entity 1 uses advanced reactor-based technology to transform industrial greenhouse gas emissions into valuable forms of energy and materials — with no residue left behind.

Its patented conversion process builds true circularity by working directly at the source, enabling real-time transformation of emissions across industries such as metals, petrochemicals, mobility and food manufacturing.

With over 80% conversion efficiency, Entity 1 goes beyond carbon capture — delivering practical commercial solutions for a cleaner and sustainable future.

It is gleaned from informed sources that the manufacturing process is being validated by HIT (Hantop Intelligence Tech), Taiwan, in collaboration with industry leaders such as TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) Foxconn et al.

“Red mud, a byproduct of aluminium production, has posed disposal and environmental

challenges. Entity 1 Value Emissions Pvt. Ltd. is converting this residue into a valuable, high-purity silica suitable for semiconductor wafers. This aligns with national goals to bolster domestic manufacturing, reduce waste and create resilient supply chains,” said a statement from the company.

Local manufacturing, it is pointed out, could reduce dependence on imported materials, improve lead times and supply reliability. Besides these, it could help lower logistics costs and price volatility associated with global supply disruptions.

By becoming the first nation to facilitate manufacture of wafers from red mud-derived silicon, it helps the country to erect a defensible early-entry position. “The patented process for converting red mud into high-purity silica suitable for wafers enhances moat and potential licensing avenues,” the statement said.

Promoter Kaushik Palicha insisted that Entity 1 Value Emissions Pvt. Ltd. has developed the technology to scale up wafer production by using steel slag and aluminium mud. “We aren’t in the manufacture of it,” he added.
