ebm-papst to set up a new plant near Chennai at Rs.340 cr.

German-headquartered family-owned ebm-papst, a global leader in fan and motor manufacturing, is expanding its presence by establishing its third manufacturing facility in the country through its wholly-owned subsidiary.

The new plant is coming up near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The new greenfield project is expected to involve an initial investment of outlay of  Rs. 340 crore (36 million Euros). The project is expected to go operational by the end next year.

The official ground-breaking ceremony for the facility will take place on April 4. This expansion is a key part of ebm-papst’s strategy for the Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa (APAC & MEA) region.

The company aims to strengthen its local production capabilities, enhance supply chain resilience and provide a faster and flexible service to customers in these markets. The new facility will come up on 14.2-acre land with the first phase covering 23,000 m². Once completed, the plant is expected to employ approximately 700 people.

“This investment reflects our long-term vision for India,” said Atul Tripathi, Managing Director of ebm-papst India. “By boosting local production, we are not only meeting the growing demand of our Indian customers but also creating sustainable employment opportunities that contribute to the country’s industrial development,” he added.

The expansion plan of ebm-papst aligns with its “Local for Local” strategy, according to Dr. Klaus Geissdoerfer, CEO of ebm-papst group. It focuses on producing goods closer to the markets it serves. The new plant will enable the company to offer customized solutions to its Indian customers and ensure a stable supply chain for the broader APAC & MEA regions.

ebm-papst specializes in providing sustainable and tailored solutions for ventilation and heating technology, establishing itself as a benchmark across various sectors, Their expertise spans air conditioning,refrigeration, mechanical engineering, intralogistics, information technology, and medical technology, ensuring high-performance standards in each field. ebm-papst, it may be recalled, established a new global capability centre in Chennai in 2023. The centre houses 300 people.

In the last financial year, the group generated a turnover of EUR 2.408 billion. The Indian subsidiary recorded sales of INR 430 crores (48 million euros)
