Adani Green hits a milestone

Adani Green Energy Ltd. (AGEL), a leading renewable energy company in the country, has reached a major milestone by surpassing 15,000 MW of installed operational capacity. With a total of 15,539.9 MW now online, AGEL has become the first and only renewable energy firm in India to reach this scale, driven primarily by greenfield developments.

The company stated that this breakthrough follows an aggressive growth phase during which AGEL added over 5,000 MW in just 15 months after crossing the 10,000 MW mark. In fiscal year 2025 alone, the company commissioned 3,309 MW—the highest renewable energy capacity addition by any player in India in a single year.

AGEL’s operational portfolio comprises approximately 11,005.5 MW of solar, 1,977.8 MW of wind, and 2,556.6 MW of hybrid wind-solar capacity. Collectively, this clean energy capacity can power around 7.9 million Indian homes and offset approximately 28.6 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually, equivalent to removing 6.3 million cars from the road or the carbon sequestration of 1.36 billion trees.

“Surpassing the 15,000 MW milestone is a moment of immense pride,” said Ashish Khanna, CEO of AGEL. “This achievement reflects the tireless commitment of our team and the vision of our promoters. We are now accelerating towards our next goal of 50,000 MW by 2030.”

Since its inception, Adani Green has delivered a series of landmark renewable energy projects across India. In FY16, the company commissioned the world’s largest single-location solar power project at Kamuthi, Tamil Nadu, with an installed capacity of 648 MW. This was followed by another significant milestone in FY23 with the development of the world’s largest single-location hybrid renewable energy cluster at Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, boasting a capacity of 2,140 MW.

Building on this momentum, AGEL is now focused on its most ambitious project yet—the world’s largest single-location renewable energy plant at Khavda, Gujarat, which will have a total planned capacity of 30,000 MW. Already, 5,355.9 MW has been commissioned at the Khavda site, which spans 538 sq km—five times the size of Paris—and is visible from space.

To date, AGEL has installed nearly 55 million solar modules and over 1,100 wind turbines, while generating approximately 3,700 green jobs through its operations.

In recognition of its environmental stewardship, AGEL’s entire operational portfolio is certified as water-positive. It currently ranks first in the National Stock Exchange’s ESG ratings for the power sector and leads the FTSE Russell ESG score for the Alternative Electricity subsector globally.

AGEL now contributes approximately 15% of India’s utility-scale solar capacity and 12% of the total utility-scale solar and wind capacity, placing it among the top 10 independent power producers (IPPs) globally in the renewable energy space.
