On his social media handle, T.R.B. Rajaa, Minister for Industries, Investment Promotions and Commerce, Tamil Nadu, announced that the desk is now operational. This marks a significant milestone in strengthening industrial and investment partnerships with Japan.

“Historic day for trade ties between Japan and Tamil Nadu. @Guidance_TN’s Japan Desk is now officially open!” Rajaa posted on X (formerly Twitter).  “It also becomes part of our growing international network of investment facilitation desks under Guidance, following our successful launches in Vietnam and Taiwan,” Rajaa said.

“With already existing over 580 Japanese establishments present in Tamil Nadu and strong memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with Osaka, Hiroshima, Ehime, etc., this Desk will serve as a powerful point of contact for existing and new,” he added.

The Japan Desk will function as a facilitation centre for Japanese investors and companies seeking to explore or expand operations in Tamil Nadu. It is expected to serve as a single point of contact for investment guidance, regulatory support and policy navigation, helping Japanese firms establish a stronger presence in the state.

This move follows sustained engagement between Tamil Nadu and Japan in the areas of automobile manufacturing, electronics and renewable energy. Japan is among the top contributors of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Tamil Nadu, and the new desk is aimed at further accelerating trade, technology collaboration and job creation.

During the inaugural ceremony, the Vice-Governor of Osaka, senior leaders from the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) and Chandru Appar, the Indian Consul-General in Osaka, were present. The launch is part of the state government’s broader strategy to internationalise Tamil Nadu’s industrial base and promote the state as a preferred investment destination in Asia.
