KICL pact with TN for skill development

Kothari Industrial Corporation Limited (KICL), the flagship company of the D C Kothari group, has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Guidance Tamil Nadu, the nodal agency of Government of Tamil Nadu (GoTN) for investment promotion and facilitation, to set up a ‘first-of-its-kind’ world-class plug-and-play skills development infrastructure for non-leather footwear in the backward district of Perambalur in Tamil Nadu.

Under the MoU, the State government has agreed to extend necessary support and facilitation to KICL in implementing the project. The MoU provides for KICL to train and offer skill development in multiple sectors, including footwear, drones and the like, for people through its proposed skilling school project in Perambalur. The government of Tamil Nadu, one the other hand, will provide KICL and its associates support by providing necessary infrastructural support and regulatory facilitation.

“Guidance Tamil Nadu and Kothari Industrial Corporation Limited are working together to identify a suitable land and infrastructure for the establishment of the upcoming Kothari Skilling School. Discussions are currently under way to evaluate potential sites, including the Government ITI campuses in Perambalur district, as a viable location for the Training Centre, subject, of course, to feasibility and approval by the authorities concerned. This initiative aims to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s skill development ecosystem by fostering industry-relevant training, aligned with the needs of future-ready manufacturing and industrial growth.

Jinnah Rafiq Ahmed, executive chairman of KICL, said that the skill development initiative would be the fulcrum for developing a robust and distributive ecosystem for industrial growth of Tamil Nadu. He hinted that KICL would invest significantly in time, money and effort to take the skill development initiative to its logical end. KICL, it may be recalled, has set up a non-leather footwear park in Perambalur district of Tamil Nadu, which focuses primarily on job creation and women empowerment.  Already, iconic global footwear brands have  started making a beeline for  the footwear park.
