A low-down on TN Warehousing policy

The Tamil Nadu government unveiled its dedicated warehousing policy 2026, as it has set an ambitious target of reaching a USD 1 trillion economy by 2030. This follows the Logistics Policy and Integrated Logistics Plan introduced in 2023.

Here are the key points from the warehousing policy, which will be valid for five years.

*The government intends to promote integrated warehouse development across the State, with a special focus on delta districts

*Policy aims to simplify regulatory requirements, reduce compliance burdens

*The State accounts for 19 per cent of logistics investment in India

*Private warehousing is concentrated in Chennai, Coimbatore and Hosur

*High untapped potential for warehousing growth in delta districts and C category districts like Ariyalur and Cuddalore, among others

*Will promote the Public-Private Partnership or Joint Venture model or Strategic Alliance for the establishment of warehousing projects in C category and Delta districts through allocation of Government land parcels

*Will encourage third-party logistics players to operate warehouses developed in the Government Industrial Parks and Industrial estates

*The policy covers both fiscal and non-fiscal incentives

*Existing and upcoming warehousing assets and storage units across the State will be granted Industry Status.

* Single Window Clearance System will be extended to the warehouse sector

*Extension of the white category to specified warehouses, which won’t be required to obtain Consent to Establish (CTE) or Consent to Operate (CTO)

* Warehousing of agricultural products without refrigeration: Standalone warehouses for the storage of dry goods and products with a built-up area of less than 5,000 square metres will be categorised under White Category

*10 per cent of allottable land area within Industrial Parks and Estates, subject to a limit of 50 acres per park/estate, will be earmarked for warehouse development

*All eligible new warehouses can avail a subsidy of 25 per cent of the cost for undertaking green initiatives, subject to a limit of Rs 2 crore.

*All eligible new warehouses can avail a subsidy of 50 per cent of the cost incurred in technical training of the warehouse, subject to a limit of Rs 10,000 per employee.

*The policy also offers special incentives for warehouse development in category C and delta districts, and also for large-scale warehouse development on government land

*It also offers a special incentive for commodity-specific warehouse development

* Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited (TIDCO) will be the nodal agency for the implementation of the policy
