Fleming has also come out of Texas Super Kings and Joburg Super Kings. This indeed signals his end to his association with CSK

Fleming, former skipper of New Zealand cricket team, joined CSK as a player during the inaugural IPL season in 2008 before taking over as head coach in 2009.

Along with captain cool, the indefatigable Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Fleming guided CSK to five IPL titles, two Champions League Twenty20 trophies, 12 play-off appearances and 10 IPL finals.

The captain-coach duo together formed a formidable combination  and is largely responsible for brand CSK to scale greater heights.

His 18-year association CSK ranks among the most successful coach-franchise partnerships in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Though Dhoni had not played in the last IPL season and CSK itself was proving to be more a shadow of its former self, Chennai Super Kings is still a darling of the fans. A committed fan following has ensured that CSK remains an iconic brand and a significant identity of the people of Chennai.

According to Fanatic Sports and Hurun India’s Most Valuable Sports Teams 2026 report. CSK is valued at Rs 18,400-Rs 20,700 crore.

With both Fleming and Dhoni sort of slowly moving into the pages of history, the management of CSK has quite a task on hand to rework its way and rebuild the team. Will CSK return to yester-year glory? That may see CSK undergo a major rejig.

Rupa Gurunath, owner of Chennai Super Kings, described Fleming as “the heartbeat of our coaching unit” and credited him with shaping the franchise’s identity, vision and pursuit of excellence over nearly two decades.

“On behalf of everyone at the Super Kings franchise, we extend our deepest gratitude for his unwavering commitment, passion and leadership. While our journey together on the field comes to a close, he will always remain an integral part of the team’s legacy,” she said.

K.S. Viswanathan, Managing Director, Chennai Super Kings, said Fleming’s influence went beyond results on the field. “From the earliest days of this journey, Fleming helped define not just how we played, but what we wanted to be as a franchise. He built a culture rooted in consistency, humility and putting the team first. His ability to understand people and bring out the best in individuals across the team has been one of his greatest strengths. His influence extends far beyond the boundary, and we are proud to have shared this remarkable journey together,” he said.

Reflecting on his journey with the franchise, Fleming said: “Eighteen years is a lifetime in sport, and I leave with nothing but gratitude. My time with Chennai Super Kings has been the privilege of my coaching career. I am proud of everything we have achieved.”

“Together, we celebrated unforgettable victories, overcame difficult moments and built memories that will stay with me forever. CSK will always be close to my heart, and I will be cheering the team on for years to come,” he added.
