In a message to the 66th Annual Convention of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), he said the automobile sector was undergoing a fundamental transformation driven by energy efficiency, energy diversification, technology and advanced manufacturing.
The message was shared by Shailesh Chandra, President of SIAM and Managing Director & CEO, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle Ltd., during the inaugural session of the convention.
Modi noted that the expansion of highways and other infrastructure was facilitating the movement of people and goods while creating new opportunities for the automobile industry.
Better connectivity and more efficient logistics were reducing costs and making Indian manufacturing more competitive, he said in the message.
Modi also highlighted the shift towards cleaner and more sustainable mobility.
The rapid expansion of charging infrastructure was encouraging greater adoption of electric vehicles and creating new opportunities for innovation, he said.
SIAM could play an important role in shaping the next generation of mobility, Modi added.
On policy measures, government reforms aimed at improving ease of doing business, including the removal of redundant laws and unnecessary compliances, had provided fresh impetus to industry, he said.
The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and Make in India have further strengthened the manufacturing capabilities of the automobile industry, Modi noted.
With recent free trade agreements (FTAs) providing greater access to international markets, the Indian automobile sector is “well placed to further expand its global presence,” the Prime Minister pointed out.
“I urge the Indian automobile industry to continue innovating, pursuing excellence and proactively charting a bold pathway towards Viksit Bharat,” he said.
Modi said the journey would bring transformative opportunities and significant growth for the mobility sector while strengthening transport as a key pillar of national development.
