AIFI-BEE MoU to push energy-efficient tech

In a strategic move to de-carbonise one of the country’s most energy-intensive manufacturing segments, the Association of Indian Forging Industry (AIFI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power.

The collaboration aims to drive adoption of advanced, energy-efficient technologies across the forging sector—particularly among micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs)—under the Rs 1,000-crore Assistance in Deploying Energy Efficient Technologies in Industries & Establishments (ADEETIE) scheme.

Launched by the Ministry of Power and steered by BEE, the Assistance for Deployment of Energy Efficient Technologies in Industrial Establishments (ADEETIE) scheme targets 14 energy-heavy sectors, offering structured support through interest subvention, project handholding, energy audits and post-deployment guidance.

Forging, which supports critical sectors such as automotive, defence and capital goods, faces persistent cost pressures due to high energy use. The partnership is expected to lower these barriers by offering 5 per cent interest subvention for micro and small units and 3 per cent for medium enterprises, unlocking Rs 6,750 crore in MSME lending.

Yash Munot, President, AIFI, said, “Forging is at the core of Indian manufacturing and one of its most energy-intensive sectors.” “This collaboration gives our members access to cutting-edge technologies and financial tools needed to remain competitive and sustainable,” he added.

With over 200 members, AIFI will now act as a central liaison, connecting forging units to fiscal benefits and guiding them on energy audits, implementation strategies and long-term sustainability transitions.

Deven Doshi, Chairman, Government Interface, AIFI, said that MSMEs often struggled with technology adoption due to a lack of capital and awareness. “This MoU offers a full-stack framework—technical, financial, operational—to overcome that,” he said.
