In a statement, the company said the new facility has a processing capacity of up to 150 tonnes per day, expanding its capacity for high-protein dairy products.

The plant will enable it to scale its Skyr and Greek Yoghurt portfolio, improve product availability and support the development of differentiated high-protein dairy offerings, it added.

Milky Mist said it was the first company in India to introduce ultrafiltration technology for manufacturing Skyr and Greek yoghurt in 2022. It had installed a customised multi-product yoghurt facility that year with a capacity of about 20 tonnes per day.

Since then, annual demand for the category has grown by more than 50 per cent, it said.

Milky Mist also said demand for high-protein yoghurts had more than doubled in recent months.

The company said the new facility was developed following an evaluation of global manufacturing technologies. Its ultrafiltration capabilities will support higher production volumes, consistent product quality and the development of high-protein dairy offerings for a wider consumer base.

The facility forms part of Milky Mist’s broader expansion and modernisation programme at Perundurai, which the company has identified as one of the stated objects of its initial public offering (IPO).

According to the company, the commissioning is expected to increase the availability of its Skyr and Greek Yoghurt portfolio and support future revenue growth in the high-protein dairy segment.

The announcement comes after Milky Mist highlighted strong growth in the category in its first quarter FY2027 results.

During the result interaction, Dr K Rathnam, Whole-time Director and CEO of Milky Mist, said Greek yoghurt and Skyr had recorded year-on-year growth of more than 150 per cent in the quarter. The products contain about 8 per cent and 11 per cent protein, respectively, and had emerged as among the company’s strongest performers, he said.

In the latest announcement, Rathnam said the shift towards high-protein nutrition was moving from a niche preference towards an increasingly mainstream consumption trend.

“The strong growth in demand for Skyr and Greek Yoghurt validates our early investment in this category and reinforces its long-term potential within India’s value-added FMCG market,” Rathnam said.
