Vibrant Gujarat Gains Traction with Chennai Roadshow
In a move to catalyse future-ready mega projects and draw investments, the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) 2024 initiated a compelling roadshow in Chennai. A precursor to the upcoming summit, the event showcased Gujarat as a robust investment destination, emphasising its pro-business policies and commitment to sustainable development.
Kanu Desai, Minister for Finance, Gujarat, in his address, underscored the state’s investor-friendly environment, ease of doing business and robust industrial infrastructure. Notably, Desai highlighted Gujarat’s achievements in renewable energy, contributing 15 per cent to India’s total renewable energy capacity with 20 GW.
Gujarat’s green hydrogen mission, aiming to generate 100 GW of renewable energy, further emphasises the state’s commitment to sustainable development. Desai also shed light on the state’s thrust towards the semiconductor sector, being the first in India to implement a policy. Future-ready mega projects, including GIFT city, Diamond Research and Mercantile City (DREAM City), and Dholera SIR showcase the readiness of the state.
The upcoming Vibrant Gujarat conference will host discussions on crucial topics, including semiconductors, sustainable manufacturing, green hydrogen, electric mobility, renewable energy, and Industry 4.0. Desai engaged in one-to-one meetings with prominent industry leaders from Star Health, Ashok Leyland, Apollo Hospitals, MRF, Sify Technologies, Maxbyte Technologies, United India Insurance, and Indian Bank.
Daikin’s new plant in Sri City
Strengthening its growth journey, Daikin Air-conditioning India, inaugurated its green filed unit in Sri City. This marks the commercialisation of the company’s third Integrated manufacturing facility in the country and the largest in South East Asia.
Inaugurating the facility, Kanwaljeet Jawa, Chairman & Managing Director of Daikin India said, “this new plant will enhance our production capability and strengthen our position as a leading provider of energy-efficient and sustainable HVAC solutions in the region.” Daikin is a primary investor in the government’s PLI scheme, taking part in the domestic air conditioner manufacturing.
Speaking at the ceremony Dr. Ravindra Sannareddy, Founder Managing Director, Sri City highlighted, “With the presence of several major AC brands, now, Sri City is regarded as the ‘cool capital’ of India.”
Masanori Togawa, President & CEO, Daikin Industries said, “With 100 production units globally and a customer base in 170 countries, Daikin is expanding its presence in India. This new facility will elevate HVAC solutions and contribute to industry growth in India and surrounding regions.” The new facility built in 75.5 acres, will offer employment to 3000 people. The facility is dedicated to the development of climate-friendly air conditioning solutions for markets in Africa, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, the Middle East and South America.
JCI’s blueprint for India’s green transition
Johnson Controls launched its whitepaper titled “Tech for Green India – Mission Net Zero” at the 21st edition of India Green Building Congress 2023. The report details the role of green buildings and technology in India’s vision for decarbonisation, and key challenges and opportunities that industries face.
“Buildings contribute nearly 40 per cent of global emissions and our priority is to help make them more sustainable and energy efficient, providing solutions that meet the specific needs of each building.,” said Anu Rathninde, President, Asia Pacific after launching the whitepaper along with Arun Awasthy, President & Managing Director. The whitepaper explores multiple challenges facing the Indian green building industry and provides a framework within which these challenges can begin to be addressed. A comprehensive strategy is imperative to achieve decarbonisation and some key aspects that require attention are, increasing awareness & adoption, enhancing standardisation and optimising the use of technology.
