DICV unveils new tippers and tractors

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. (DICV), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG, Germany, has launched a new range of heavy-duty vehicles under two series—BharatBenz HX and BharatBenz Torqshift – targeted at construction and mining sector.

While the HX series, priced in the range of Rs 56 lakh to Rs 65 lakh, focuses exclusively on tippers, the Torqshift range includes both tippers and tractors.

The launch has been prompted by the growing potential given India’s infrastructure-led growth under the Viksit Bharat vision, and comes amid a strong resurgence in the mining sector. The $16 billion mining industry is projected to grow to $45 billion by 2030, representing a CAGR of 19–20% over the next five years.

“Last year, we gave a sneak preview of these products. Since then, we’ve delivered 200 trucks from our new HX construction range, and they’ve already set new benchmarks in real-world use,” said Satyakam Arya, Managing Director & CEO, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles. “We’re not talking about marginal gains—we’re seeing 15–20% performance improvement compared to current best-in-class products in the Indian market.”

The HX Series (2828C HX and 3532C HX) is designed for the heavy-duty construction sector and comes with reinforced frames, powerful engines (280 hp/1100 Nm and 320 hp/1250 Nm), and features such as Hill Hold Assist, wind deflectors, unitized front axle bearings, and a driver state monitoring system. The trucks offer best-in-class gradeability—up to 60%—making them ideal for steep climbs under full load.

The second major innovation is DICV’s introduction of Torkshift automated manual transmission (AMT) technology, a feature long discussed but rarely adopted in India due to concerns over cost and performance. “We’ve adapted the globally proven Mercedes-Benz AMT system for Indian conditions,” said Pradeep Kumar Thimmaiyan, President & Chief Technology Officer, DICV. “With over a million units sold worldwide, the system has already been piloted successfully here, with 80 trucks deployed across Indian mines.”

The results have been significant—AMT now accounts for 65% of DICV’s mining truck sales, reflecting growing acceptance of the technology in a cost-sensitive market. Initially introduced in mining applications, Torqshift is now being extended to the long-haul tractor-trailer segment, with performance data expected soon.

The Torqshift Series (2832CM and 3532CM), featuring the AMT system, is built for demanding mining operations, offering zero-lag performance, quicker turnaround, and reduced driver fatigue.

Arya added that the BharatBenz brand holds close to 50% market share in the mining segment—excluding deep mining—and currently operates in a segment estimated at about 5,000 units annually.

The company also unveiled a new Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) variant, the 2828C RMC, featuring a 9 cu.m mixer on the HX platform and powered by a 280 HP engine, built to tackle tough construction routes.

Rajiv Chaturvedi, President & Chief Business Officer, DICV, said the HX range is built for productivity and long-term value. “With its intelligent body design, the truck allows higher payloads—even with 18-cubic-meter bodies—while rugged construction and an efficient drivetrain deliver 10–15% higher productivity,” he said. “At over ₹100 per litre of diesel, every extra ton counts. HX and Torqshift focus on lifecycle value, offering reliable performance and long-term savings for value-conscious buyers.”
